MEET OUR DOCTORS
Bryan J. Kitahara, D.D.S.
Dr. Bryan Kitahara obtained his bachelor's degree in biology at the
University of Michigan in 2004 and proceeded to graduate Magna Cum Laude from
the Baltimore College of Dental Surgery, University of Maryland Dental School.
While at the University of Maryland, Dr. Kitahara was active in
dental research and received the Academy of Operative Dentistry Award and the
Lippincott Williams and Wilkins Award for excellence in Anatomy.
Dr. Kitahara is also the recipient of the Katherine Toomey plaque for
devotion to the school and to the profession and the Dr. William S. Kramer
award for promise for the advancement of dentistry.
Subsequently, Dr. Bryan Kitahara completed a General Practice Residency in dentistry at the Veterans
Affairs Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Through this program, he acquired
additional training in dental implant restorations, oral surgery, and
restorative dentistry. He also completed an externship at York Hospital in
general dentistry and an oral surgery externship at Washington Hospital Center.
Dr. Bryan Kitahara grew up in Laurel and currently resides in Gaithersburg with his
wife Cari, sons Connor and Cameron. He continues to demonstrate a committment to
serving the community in which he grew up. He has volunteered his time to give
oral screenings at the Maryland Special Olympic games as well as to underserved
veterans in the Washington, D.C. area.
Dr. Bryan Kitahara is a member of the American Dental Association, the Maryland
State Dental Association, the Academy of General Dentistry, the Omicron Kappa
Upsilon Dental Honor Society, the Gorgas Odontologic Honor Society, and the Chinese
Dental Study Club.
David J. Kitahara, D.D.S.
Dr. David Kitahara resides in Laurel with his wife, Arlene, and has provided
family dental care to the Laurel community since 1979. Dr. David Kitahara earned a Bachelor of
Science degree in Zoology from The University of Maryland in College Park and
graduated Magna Cum Laude from The Baltimore College of Dental Surgery,
University of Maryland School of Dentistry in 1978, followed by a year of
residency in general practice dentistry at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Washington, DC.
Dr. David Kitahara also spent six years as an associate dentist in a pediatric
(children’s) dental office, received additional training and certification in
Orthodontics for general practitioners in 1985, and received Biolase Laser
training and certification in 2005. He has been honored as one of the top-rated
dentists in the area by Washington Consumers’ Checkbook and The Guide To
America’s Top Dentists.
Dr. David Kitahara is committed to providing state-of-the-art, high quality dentistry, by
taking numerous hours of continuing education and maintaining active membership
in the following professional organizations: Academy of General Dentistry, The
Academy of GP Orthodontics, American Dental Association, Maryland State Dental
Association, Southern Maryland Dental Association, and the Chinese Dental Study
Club.
Aside from dentistry, Dr. David Kitahara is a huge Terrapin basketball fan
and lifelong Redskin fan. He also enjoys golf, tennis, skiing, photography, and
travel.
Yoon Shin, D.D.S.
Dr. Yoon Shin graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Maryland College Park with a
Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering in 2014. He then spent a few months shadowing Dr. Kitahara
before attending the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. During his time in dental school, he
was selected for the Clerkship in Implant Dentistry and received an award in General Dentistry. He
also completed externships at community clinics in Frederick, Shady Grove, and Northern Virginia.
Outside of school, he gained valuable prosthodontic and digital dentistry experience by working
part-time at his family-owned dental laboratory in Jessup, MD.
In his free time, he enjoys traveling, hiking, playing frisbee, and rooting for the Washington Capitals.
Kwan Ngai, D.D.S.
Dr. Kwan Ngai has been a longtime Maryland resident, spending most of her time in the
Baltimore community. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry and
worked on vaccine development as a research associate. Prior to entering dental school,
she spent times shadowing and helping in the dental office with both Drs. Kitahara since
2013. During her time at the office, she found her passion for dentistry and patient
centered care. After graduating from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry, she
went on to complete a general practice residency at Christiana Care in Delaware, where she
was treating medically compromised patients.
In her spare time, she loves to volunteer, spend time with her families, and travel around
the world.
